Cyrus TTP Turntable
The Cyrus Audio TTP turntable is the first turntable from Cyrus and what a first turntable this is. TTP is a beautifully designed, high-end design made from solid blocks of precision-engineered aluminium. A belt drive design with electronic speed control between 33rpm and 45rpm. This is an excellent match for any good phono stage - or indeed with Cyrus Audio's own hi-fi separates.
This is a two-speed deck with an electronic speed control developed by Cyrus. There is also a power supply port that can be used with an upgraded power supply unit. No cartridge is provided, leaving the choice up to you.
Solid aluminium construction
The platter and plinth of the Cyrus TTP turntable are both made of precision-machined solid aluminium blocks. The high mass makes the platter extremely stable. The platter rotates on a hardened steel axle that is mounted on an ultra-precise bearing. High-mass platters tend to resist changes in speed.
Lightweight tonearm
The tonearm of the Cyrus TTP turntable is lightweight and has carefully distributed mass to reduce any chance of resonances. The bearings on the horizontal axis are friction-free and the choice of cartridge is left up to you. Moving coil types would make the best of the precision tonearm.
Digital speed control
The Cyrus TTP turntable is a two-speed unit with an integrated DC synchronous motor. The motor has a digital control unit developed by Cyrus. The mechanical parts were designed by a German engineering company. There is also a PSX-R2 port that can be used with a power supply upgrade. Moreover, the unit has specially designed isolating feet.
Cartridge types and choices
With the high-end Cyrus TTP turntable an MC cartridge would be the logical choice. The tonearm has been carefully designed and the low mass of an MC cartridge would provide the best results. Moving coil cartridges have two tiny coils mounted onto the cantilever that holds the stylus.
These sit inside a magnet and produce the audio signal. However, the output is low at less than 1mv. The main advantage is lower mass resulting in better tracking, especially at high frequencies. Notably, most amplifiers only have an MM input.
Therefore a separate phono stage would be the best choice to go along with the Cyrus TTP turntable. Moving coil cartridges can have a wide range of different impedance and gain requirements. As a result, high-end phono preamps have adjustable gain and impedance settings.
