Rega Reference EBLT Upgrade Turntable Drive Belt

Custom-made premium Reference EBLT drive belt. Fitted as standard to all Planar 8 and Planar 10 turntable models from March 8th 2021.

The Rega Reference EBLT drive belt is the culmination of many years of R&D and advanced tooling trials. The most accurate drive belt we have ever produced, the Reference EBLT is now fitted as standard to all Planar 8 and Planar 10 turntable models as standard. The Reference belt is suitable for all Rega turntables but highly recommended for the Planar 6 and any Planar 3 using the Rega Neo TT PSU.

Each belt is moulded on our highly accurate custom tooling using a unique secret blend. Once moulded, the belts are cryogenically frozen and barrelled to remove any excess flash in order to create perfect cross sectional roundness which is critical for accurate speed and stability. In normal use and conditions, the lifespan of the EBLT drive belt is 50% longer than the previous model. All Reference belts go through a unique curing process which guarantees the highest achievable level of accuracy.

Below you can see a direct comparison taken from our custom test software. You can compare the old belt (top) versus the latest EBLT reference belt (bottom). We have used the same Planar 1 turntable. The only part that has changed is the drive belt. You can clearly see a notable reduction in weighted peak Wow / Flutter measurements produced by the increased accuracy and cross sectional roundness of the EBLT belt. The standard belt measures 0.253% / the Advanced EBLT measures 0.162% and the Reference EBLT measures 0.075%

Great Upgrade for Rega P1
06 December 2023  |

My P1 was running fast - very nearly 34rpm as measured by phone app. The existing belt was about 3 years old with about 1000 hours use.
Replacing with the Reference EBLT restored speed to bang on 33.33 with much reduced W&F.
I'm sure that the improvement would be less if comparing between new belts, but it's worth doing the upgrade if your belt is due for replacement.

Reference EBLT vs Edwards Blue
13 June 2023  |

On my Planar 3 with 24v motor, stock subplatter & TTPSU I get similar results to others here: the EBLT runs a little slower than the Edwards: 33.10 rpm vs 33.28 (PlatterSpeed app with a 3150 Hz signal from the Tacet test record), but speed stability is improved: +/-0.06% vs 0.14% (best trials). The Rega is a looser fit so squeaks a bit more on startup.

Rega Reference Belt

Difficult to get too excited about what is essentially a rubber band, but it has tightened up the sound quality and improved the timing on my old Rega Planar 2.

Usual flawless service from Analogue Seduction

Replaced slipping belt on Rega Planar 3. Speed is now stable. I'm hoping this belt lasts a few years.

Is there any sound improvement?
16 May 2021  |

The latest spec drive belt from Rega is fitted to my RP6 /Exact (2013 model). It took quite a few listens to familiar records before I decided there was indeed an improvement. My ears seem to detect a very small difference in control and coherence. I used Music Matters 33s - Coltrane, Mobley and Burrell issues as test records. For the sake of completeness, the rest of my system is Linn from 1998 (almost 'vintage'?)
Worth getting this belt if all you end up with is a spare!

Very nice surprise!
13 May 2021  |

Well,I ordered this for my 1996 planar 3 by mistake (meant to get the advanced belt). - serendipidus result- was using the blue “little belter “ and running at 33.56, 0.26%w/f and 45.47, 0.11%w/f. Now 33.31, 0.14% and 45.16, 0.06%.

No squeal on startup (cleaned pulley and sub platter rim with isopropyl) and audible improvement in leading edge attack and sustain.

Now I need to think about another couple for the P8...!
