Goldring 1042 Stylus replacement

I bought this stylus to replace the Goldring 1006. I was very pleased with the 1006 but I couldn't resist trying an upgrade just to see if it would extract any more information from the grooves.I'm pleased to report that the 1042 has met my expectations. It provides a very wide and detailed sound stage with depth revealing subtle nuances which were not so apparent with other styli I have used. This stylus gives punchy well controlled bass which is in abundance but not over blown. It took about 20 hours play before it realised it's full potential. If you are playing a record which is bright it will show it up whereas the 1006 was more forgiving.The 1042 is a little forward in the treble so if your system is already bright sounding this may not be the best choice but if you are playing a well recorded record on a balanced system it would be hard to imagine anything better.

Despite being long in the tooth now, this cartridge/stylus still takes some beating in it's price range. With a detailed, neutral and natural presentation, I'll keep using it until it's no longer on the market.,

I first set up my system in the 90s : Pink Triangle (LPT) turntable/ Roksan Tabriz Arm / Corus Black Cartridge - paired with Musical Fidelity A100 Amp / MC2 speakers. I was (and am still) convinced this provides the best soundstage for my music (modern jazz / southern soul / r&b). Anyway, keeping this system going for almost 30 years has involved servicing / replacing / upgrading pretty much everything. The most recent upgrade has been the decision to replace the Gyger II of the Corus Black with a Goldring 1042 cartridge. This has been the best thing I have done in 30 years (well almost). The cartridge reveals so much more mid-range detail without changing the inherent warmth of my set-up.
It has not yet been run-in for more than 10 hours and I'm already over the moon.

After rummaging around the various forums this Goldring stylus seemed to be a suitable replacement for my elderly Roksan Corus Black. And it is!
Slid straight in to cartridge body without a fuss. So if you don't fancy shelling out over £400 to replace with the only Roksan stylus available for the Corus (apparently upgrading the Black to a Silver) , this is it. Too early to judge sound quality as I have not had time to run it in yet but I have no reason to believe it won't be good. Initial impression over my worn stylus was very good.

After 2 years of heavy use i changed the stylus. It was like a breath of fresh air.
Deep bass,finely textured 3D mids and clear unforced treble.
I advise having the weight at 2g & VTA down a smidge for the first 2 weeks while the suspension relaxes then return to 1.85g and level.
Eventually the suspension wears and
you lose stereo focus and no amount of subtle VTA lifting will help, so buy another one its worth every penny and only takes 1 minute to change.

I find the Goldring 1042 to be a perfectly balanced cartridge. No weak spots, and plenty of strengths make it a strong competitor to any other cartridge. The stylus replacement make my almost 30 years old cartridge sound like new. I just love it!

One of my favorite carts, this replacement stylus has brought back the revealing enjoyment of my collection.
While only 10 hours in service, the replacement has returned the toe-tapping PRAT its worn sibling has lost.

I needed a new stylus for a Roksan Corus Black cartridge. Unfortunately they don't make them anymore and the price of a Corus Silver seemed a bit much for a 30 year old Rega Planar 3, to the point where a whole new cartridge (or deck!) would have made more sense. But the Goldring 1042 stylus fits perfectly, no tracking adjustments are required, it has the same (if not better) warm, rounded tone and, with a new white drive belt, is a true upgrade in sound. I'm listening to Cannonball Adderley's "Somethin' Else" as I type (ok, so maybe you worked that one out already) which describes it exactly.
