Definitive Technology BP9080 Floorstanding Loudspeakers
The Definitive Technology BP9080x speakers are a pair of bipolar tower speakers that will fill your listening space with deep bass, soaring overhead special effects and a more immersive, atmospheric sound. Packing a lot of punch into a sleekly designed cabinet, the BP9080x will deliver an outstanding experience from a single pair of floor-standing speakers that would otherwise require an entire surround sound system. This experience can be attributed to the plethora of impressive technology included within the speaker itself. This includes a built-in powered subwoofer that will produce a stunning low-end impact, and front and rear-firing speaker arrays that have been added to enable room-filling, spacious sound, as well as precise imaging. An upward-firing driver array has also been built in to the top of the enclosure in order to create an extra layer of “height” over your listening area when Dolby Atmos surround sound is in use. These front, rear and top-firing speaker arrays will work together to seamlessly create a listening experience that is truly immersive.
Bipolar Technology
The Definitive Technology BP9080x speaker uses Bipolar technology to enhance the production of high quality sound. Through this Bipolar technology, direct sound emitting from the front two midrange drivers and tweeter will reach your ears first, thus providing imaging that remains clear and focused. This is then closely followed by sound from the rear mid driver and 1” aluminium dome tweeter, improving the spaciousness. This creates a much more realistic soundstage that will closely mimic the way in which we hear sound in real life. And, with the addition of Definitive Technology’s Balanced Double Surround System (BDSS) drivers, music and sound effects will sound much clearer. This BDSS technology will provide such an impressively accurate soundstage that you would be able to pinpoint the soloist in a band or sense in which direction a car is approaching on a busy street.
12” Side-Firing Subwoofer
At the very base of the Definitive Technology BP9080x Bipolar Speaker is a 12” side-firing subwoofer. This subwoofer has been coupled with two 12” passive radiators. Combining the three will create the total radiating surface that would otherwise be found in a much larger subwoofer, only with improved control offered over the bass, speed and detail. A built-in 455-watt amplifier works to power the subwoofer, producing a bass response that is so deep that it eliminates the need for an additional external subwoofer. Because the subwoofer is built into the speaker cabinet itself, the bass output is consequently blended perfectly with the mids and highs. Simply set the bass volume to suit your room and taste and the BP9080x will provide only the best listening experience for your music and movies.
Top-Firing Midrange and Tweeter Speaker Array
The Definitive Technology BP9080x’s top-firing midrange and tweeter speaker array has been designed to deliver Dolby Atmos height channels, thus providing an easy way through which Dolby Atmos surround sound can be seamlessly integrated into your home theatre. The Atmos speaker array is provided with its own exclusive pair of binding post terminals at the base of the tower for connection to a Dolby Atmos compatible receiver’s “Height” or “Top” outputs.
Dolby Atmos
Dolby Atmos has been included with this tower speaker in order to provide you with the most immersive listening and viewing experiences possible. The sole intention of Dolby Atmos is to make it feel as though you are truly in the middle of all the action. Providing a clarity, power, detail and depth to your home theatre that is truly astonishing, Dolby Atmos is the first home theatre system that has been based on audio objects rather channels. This means that filmmakers are able to decide where the sounds should originate from and where abouts they should move to as the scene progresses. In order to deliver the full object-based soundtrack to your home theatre, Dolby has developed new home authorising tools and new encoding methods that will allow all the audio objects created for use within a cinema to be used within the comfort of your own home.
DTS:X
DTS:X has also been included in the BP9080x and provides the next generation in object based, multi-dimensional audio technology from DTS. As DTS:X is unbound from any channels, it is able to portray a fluidity in the movement of sound, thus creating an incredibly rich, realistic, and overall more immersive soundscape than has ever been seen in home cinema before – in front of, behind, and above the listener. DTS:X will also automatically adapt the audio to the speaker layout that best suits your space.
Speaker Terminals
Terminals are aplenty with the Definitive Technology BP9080x, offering a set of speaker terminals for the main front-firing driver and another set of speaker terminals for the top-firing height speaker module. All terminals are 5-way binding posts that can accommodate spade connectors, single or dual banana plugs, pin connectors, and bare wire up to 10-gauge. Connection of the BP9080x’s front-channel binding post terminals to your AV receiver’s front speaker terminal outputs will allow this tower speaker’s internal crossover network to distribute all frequencies to the correct drivers, as well as allowing the internal subwoofer to work in harmony with the mid-range array, providing a sound quality that has to be heard to be believed.
Design
The BP9080x’s cabinet is completely resonance free and acoustically transparent in order to produce only high-performance and distortion-free sound. The cabinet’s maximum rigidity features strategically placed bracing that will offer improvements in imaging and reduction in resonance, reinforcing an already impressive sound by ensuring it remains clean and powerful. The acoustically transparent cloth grille will make sure you can enjoy your music or movie soundtracks at the optimum, uncoloured quality without needing to remove the grille. The top of the speaker cabinet features an elegant brushed aluminium metal plate that has been acoustically-treated; this plate finishes the cabinet off perfectly with that extra flare of style.
An LED “D” logo can be found on the front of this speaker, and will light up when the BP9080x’s built-in amplifier is switched on. The LED light will turn off once the amplifier goes into standby mode. This LED logo can be switched off altogether, for those who wish to do so.
