Dr Feickert MkII Cartridge Alignment Tool

The Dr Feickert Protractor is a precision device for vinyl lovers that enables you to adjust cartridges and tonearms with an effective length from 8.6 up to 17.7 inches for correct overhang and offset. The calculation of parameters were carefully carried out according Lofgren’s (frontside) and Baerwald’s (backside) equations aiming in reduction of the overall RMS distortion level caused by deviations from the perfect linear tracking position of your cartridge.

This is an improved version of an already very effective tool. The adjustments now allow for not only Lofgren and Baerwald equations but also Stevenson. This provides even further choices to reduce the distortion that can be caused by a less-than-ideal tangential position of your cartridge while tracking the grooves of your records. This is the best solution for accurately aligning your cartridge with a wider variety of tonearms. It is accurate, compact, more versatile and even easier to use.

Experience with this purchase is a mixed one.

Got this tool from Analogue Seduction. Fast despatch and smooth buying process. That's the plus side.

The downside goes to the tool itself. This protractor underwent a revision a few years ago which I thought is a backward development compared to what it was like a decade ago.

Firstly the small circles are no longer printed on all alignment points making it extremely difficult to read the stylus. Basically you do not know which points are to be used for alignment without referring to the supplementary note. That defeats the whole purpose.

Secondly the built quality of this protractor turns out to be a downgrade compared to its predecessors. Now it feels no where near the German precision even from the minute parts like the screws.

Had it given the chance to choose again, I would have bought the protractor from another German brand. Much pricier but at least there are the feels of precision and accuracy. However I am totally happy with Analogue Seduction service.
