Stillpoints Ultra 5 V2 Isolation Unit (Single)
The Stillpoints Ultra 5 is a larger version of the Stillpoint Ultra SS. The Stillpoints Ultra 5 employs five pockets of Stillpoint technology. When using four Stillpoint Ultra 5 under components they provide 20 pockets of isolation.
Stillpoints are isolation devices that sit under your components and loudspeakers, effectively decoupling them from the environment on which they sit.
They are manufactured from ceramics and the highest grade stainless steel available and as a result will last for many lifetimes and see you through countless system upgrades.
By installing Stillpoints under an electronic component like an amplifier (or a speaker) you are effectively eliminating a direct path between the component and whatever surface it sits on and as a result you mechanically lower the noise floor.
By doing this you increase dynamics, heighten transients, increase the amount of air and space resulting in a much more musical and natural presentation. You will get a benefit from just putting Stillpoints under 1 component in your hi-fi, but when you float the entire system a scary thing happens with the presentation. I can’t recall doing a demonstration of Stillpoints which hasn’t resulted in someone being amazed with the results, several incredibly sceptical customers have almost become unofficial brand ambassadors, waxing lyrical about the benefits of Stillpoints online!
Depending on budget it could be more beneficial to ‘float’ your entire system on a less expensive Stillpoint as opposed to throwing all of your budget to Stillpoint one component only. As ever, this depends on the system, your budget and what you like the sound of!
The Ultra 5 V2 is quite a step up in physical size and weight, with a big jump up in performance as well.
There are 5 technology pockets in each one, so when 4 are fitted under a component or a speaker there’s a lot going on! They are substantially bigger and heavier than the Ultra SS. There is no levelling component in the Ultra 5 so if they are going under speakers, the Ultra Bases are very useful as they provide a degree of fine tuning, but if they are being installed on a perfectly level they generally won’t be needed.
In performance terms the Ultra 5 is real game changer. Sited underneath a big power (or integrated) amplifier in the appropriate place will totally transform the performance of the system as there will be a lot of unwanted energy being created by the mains transformers which can find its way back into the signal path, you will get a quieter background and by dropping the noise floor you get much more subtle detail and nuances in the music that were previously masked.
Complicated pieces of music play with real cohesion, you can easily follow each individual element within the track, rhythmic expression leaps out and there is so much more space and air around everything, it sounds as is the musicians are right at the top of their game, making the system so immersive to listen to. It simply makes the music more live sounding.
Remove the Stillpoints and everything slows up and becomes congested and it’s instantly less enjoyable to listen to.
I can’t stress enough how good these are, if you’ve an expensive pair of loudspeakers or a good system the benefits they will bring to the musicality of your system cannot be underestimated.
If you intend to use Ultra 5 under your loudspeakers you will require threaded adapters to connect the Ultra 5’s to your speakers spike threads. Please let us know which speakers you have and we can advise on which adapters are required, they are typically around £10-£20 per adapter unless they are unusually large.
Each Ultra 5 measures 2.25" high by 3" wide.
