During the lockdown I had more time to spend revisiting my mostly vinyl music collection. It was clear that my existing pre/power amp pair of more than 40 years old was struggling to drive my speakers. So I was looking for a serious upgrade. Enter the Musical Fidelity M6S PRE/PRX PAIR.
The build quality is excellent and if they were to go faulty, they would be straight forward to service.
Get yourself all new interconnect cables, it makes sense and use the BALANCED XLR CONNECTIONS where ever possible in your hifi system.
Get new speaker cables if you have any money left! We have moved to a smaller house, but our listening room is a good size and the PRX has no problem providing the headroom I believe you need when listening to say HANDELS ORGAN CONCERTOS.
If you need more power then you can just change the PRX for a more powerful amp and keep the PRE.
Being from the old school as my son would say! I have a cassette deck, CD/HDD recorder, Radio Tuner, Phono amp etc all connected to the PRE and connections to spare.
You will need place the PRX on a substantial shelf/rack with open sides to help with the 20kg weight and cooling. I think that this is a value for money HIGH END PAIR which should give you many hours of enjoyment and recommend you check it out, enjoy.

Outstanding pre/power amplifiers

I have been using the Music fidelity M2si amp and was more than happy with it. My new speakers are very inefficient and I had a feeling that the amp was trying but 60 watts per channel wasn’t enough. The M6PRX arrived first and installing it and using my M2si as a preamp showed what the speakers could do. It opened everything up, from bass to the highest treble. A real revelation. I was not using balanced cables at this time. The M6PRE arrived as well as my ballanced cables. At first not much better. After the cables had some time to settle in the pair are produce, what I call, a very musical delivery. The M2si has an excellent sounding amplifier but these pre and power amps are outstanding. I have not used the digital and phono inputs since I have a DAC and phono stage that are connected to the preamp via balanced cables. I am expecting this team to improve with time as the equipment and cables settle in more. Highly recommended.

p.s. get some better power cables, they help.
