Booker Ervin - The Freedom Book CD CPRJ7295SA
Booker Ervin's recordings with Charles Mingus and Randy Westen gave the tenor saxophonist positive reviews. But it was his series at Prestige Records, which made him known as a giant Jazzer. Ervin's saxophone breathes Texan seclusion and expanse, as does the sighing of the American Southwest. But his style goes beyond that, unites Bebop and echoes of free jazz. "The Freedom Book" from 1963 belongs to Ervin's masterpieces. He is supported with power and energy by Jaki Byard (piano), Richard Davis (bass) and Alan Dawson (drums).
The hybrid SACD appears in the Jewelcase in a series of 50 reissues of the legendary prestige label, consisting of 25 mono- and stereo recordings.
