Luxman D-380 Valve CD Player

The Luxman D-380, an exceptional CD player with selectable transistor and vacuum tube output modes in a traditional wooden chasis. The D-380 is a CD player that proudly bears the Golden Number "38" of the Luxmanvacuum tube amp series and also features a tube output stage. In addition to advanced digital circuitry, equipped with a 32-bit compatible DAC and jitter reduction IC, it features a vacuum tube output system composed of a buffer circuit, an ECC 82 vacuum tube and a dedicated transformer. The D-380’s traditional wooden chassis provides a classic, attractive look and brings renewed pleasure to many music fans familiar with how CD players have become mature music media.

Switchable vacuum tube and transistormode
The DAC chip is connected to a high grade integrated circuit output stage. A lever switch provided on the front panel engages a buffer circuit and an ECC 82 vacuum tube coupled with high audio quality film capacitors and a large, dedicated output transformer. Equipping the output stage with such a freely selectable function enables playback according to musical genre and listener preference. The vacuum tube output imparts a substantial, luxurious musical expression, with a feeling of increased density over that of the solid state output which already richly develops audio information, corresponding to vivid sound resolution from a high quality source with appropriate harmonics. It is possible to switch between these two presets during CD playback. Also, when selecting the vacuum tube output, the ECC 82 visible in the display panel glows with a warm orange light, adding a touch of colour to the design.

Traditional wooden chassis
The elegant exterior is constructed with a natural wood veneered traditional bronze wooden cabinet and an exquisite brushed aluminum front panel. It's full sized, 440mm wide body has true presence and is visually pleasing in combination with various Luxman amplifier products such as the LX-380 vacuum tube pre/power amp.

Fluorescent display
A high-quality, large-sized fluorescent display provides excellent visibility with a 4x zoom mode convenient for remote operation from the listening position. The display emits orange light, a consideration to the lighting environment of the listening room, and a dimmer function is also available, which can even turn the display off completely. It is possible to switch between these two presets during CD playback. Also, when selecting the vacuum tube output, the ECC 82 visible in the display panel glows with a warm orange light, adding a touch of colour to the design.

Thick aluminum base for mechanical parts
Like the SACD player D series, the D-380 adopts a left-of-chassis mechanical layout, taking into consideration the ideal flow of electrical power and audio signals. A newly designed, 8 mm thick, solid aluminum base and a shielded box chassis with a loop-free structure supports the drive mechanism's signal reading stability.

Dedicated jitter reduction IC
In order to accurately reproduce the information on the disc, it is necessary to thoroughly eliminate time axis fluctuation or jitter, and maintain the accuracy of the data transfer clock. A dedicated jitter reduction IC is a new feature of the D-380. Thissystem suppresses jitter-derived distortion during D / A conversion, bestowing high quality musical expression suitable for the most upstream device of the system. Also, CD digital audio output can be accessed via the coaxial / optical terminals on the back panel (output can be deselected on the remote control).

CD player with a valve

A very good sounding CD player. Makes the best of your existing CD collection or charity shop finds. The valve buffer just provides that extra sparkle to the sound. loading tray seems to be 1st class.
