I love companies like Denon, they know how to make serious kit for seriously good value, but are looked down upon by the average audiophile because they are one of the larger companies, a serious mistake. This beauty may not have the wattage that raises eyebrows, but it can deliver some serious current, far more important when controlling speakers in my experience. My PMA-2020AE is partnered with a Pioneer PD-77 CD player and a pair of heavily modified Castle Harlech 2 speakers. In this combination it is an absolute all-rounder. Feeding it with quality mains is a must (pretty basic these days, right?), give it the best signal cabling you can, swap out the internal fuse (I use HiFi Tuning Supreme) and it is capable of dipping its toes into the high end. My reference system - a bespoke, all valve, analogue set-up - is clearly superior, but when a £1900 integrated can hold its own by comparison and shares many of the same qualities, then there is a rare bargain in hifi land.
