Spendor D7.2 Loudspeakers

The D7 is easy to drive, truly compatible with valve amplifiers, and also genuinely efficient. Undemanding of placement, it has fine stereo and extended powerful bass, sounds upbeat and well balanced, and will drive larger rooms as required. And the build and finish is first rate: what more can one ask?

MARTIN COLLOMS – HiFi CRITIC

Compatible with all good amplifiers, the floorstanding D7.2 delivers exceptional resolution and low-frequency power, communicating a vibrant realism to music of all genres. With their slim enclosures and smart modern finishes, they’re easy to place in dedicated listening rooms or everyday living spaces.

All D-Line loudspeakers draw on our research into cabinet damping, advanced polymers, amplifier-loudspeaker interface, low-frequency airflow and sound behaviour. An inspiring and satisfying choice for audiophiles and discerning music-lovers.

The excellent Spendor D7 has been updated to the second generation specification and is now the D7.2. On demonstration now

“There’s something about the way the D7 goes about it’s business that makes the music magic. The result is a speaker that is lovely to listen to, no matter what you throw at it.” Hi-Fi Choice magazine

The Spendor D7 delivers music with a fresh vibrant realism that conventional loudspeakers cannot match. This new level of performance is the direct result of important Spendor innovations.

The Spendor LPZ tweeter is built around a stainless steel front plate that forms an acoustic chamber directly in front of the lightweight diaphragm. The phase correcting microfoil equalises sound wave path lengths whilst generating a symmettrical pressure environment so the tweeter operates in a balanced linear mode. The D7 mid-bass drive unit has an advanced EP77 polymer cone, whilst the low frequency drive unit uses a bonded Kevlar composite.

The latest fifth generation Spendor Linear Flow port features a twin-venturi, tapered baffle element working in harmony with Spendor’s proven dynamic damping, asymmetric bracing and rigid plinth mountings.

Spendor D7 in Walnut
15 May 2014  |

Due to the need to place these very close to the wall, my choice was always going to include Spendor floor standers; I owned a pair of S6e's previously. What these remarkable D7 speakers do is achieve that very rare combination of being analytical and utterly musical. The soundstage is holographic regardless of source material and seamless across the frequency range. Be warned that, as with all fine equipment, faults in recordings are clear to hear. I drive them with a Devialet amplifier and this is a magical combination, which with the proposed SAM upgrade can only get better. Spendor themselves demo their kit with these French amplifiers. All in all this is a speaker which I am unlikely to want to upgrade, and that is perhaps the ultimate audiophile compliment. In that my wife regards them as the most attractive pair we have owned so far, this may become a permanent fixture.
