Grado Reference 1 Phono Cartridge

The top of the Reference line uses an exotic five-piece cantilever design and a true ellipsoid diamond stylus. The entire assembly is painstakingly assembled and tuned to one resonance point. The end result is one of the finest-sounding cartridges available of any type.

The newly redesigned Grado Reference 1 cartridge offers four improvements over its predecessor.

- The coil design has been reconfigured. The size of the coils were reduced, cutting back on the number of turns, for improved sound quality.
- Grado Labs has developed a new process of potting the coils which helps control internal resonance in the coils which then lowers the noise floor even more than before.
- Also, the effective moving mass of their generating system has been reduced by 17%, thus allowing for a quicker and more accurate reproduction of music.
- All this is hand-assembled within a machined, new processed, Australian Jarrah wood housing. The wood enclosure has been changed from Mahogany to Australian Jarrah, which is a much harder and denser, thus adding greater stability to the cartridge as a generating device.

The Grado Reference 1 and Reference Master 1 models use a five piece OTL cantilever technology achieving an additional 5% tip mass reduction over the Grado Reference Platinum1 and Sonata1 models. The coils are wound with ultra-high purity long crystal (UHPLC) oxygen free copper wire. The Grado Reference Master1 cartridge is mounted with Grado's specially designed nude elliptical diamond, and the Grado Reference 1 Reference1 model uses Grado's true ellipsoid design diamond.
