Graham Slee Elevator EXP Pre Amplifier

The Elevator EXP Pre Preamplifier preamplifies the signal from a conventional output moving coil phono cartridge to moving magnet cartridge sensitivity. The signal is then fed to a moving magnet phono stage.

It's better than a step up transformer because noise cannot be induced into it, and it's far more linear making for a better bass response.

It's the electronic equivalent of a moving coil step up transformer, or as moving coil enthusiasts abbreviate it: SUT. However, a step up transformer easily picks up hum and electrical disturbances — it also consumes some of the delicate signal current to magnetize its core.

Highly recommended MC step up
23 November 2022  |

This is a step up device to enable low output MC cartridges to work into a MM phono stage. As I have already have a Graham Slee Reflex M, this was a logical addition, and it does not disappoint, The sound stage is wide, deep and solid, Bass extension is phenomenal, the treble and mid range silky smooth, with almost valve like sweetness, while retaining the incisive sharpness when required. The loading allows fine tuning, an exercise well worth the time, especially if you own some revealing Amplifier and Speaker combination.
I can hear previously unheard instruments and vocals in the mix of some records, but this seems very recording dependant. This device does not favour one style of music over another, I have played Classical, Jazz, Pop and Rock music, all equally well replayed.
Highly recommended way to hear the benefits of low output MC cartridges, when you have MM only input on your phono pre amp.
