Dali Rubicon 2 Loudspeakers

The Rubicon 2 stand speaker is the perfect blend between compact size and large sound performance. With the solid MDF cabinet, the Rubicon 2 has a perfect working environment for its ultra-light 29 mm soft dome tweeter, 6.5 inch wood fibre low-loss driver, and gold-plated terminals. It is rich on detail with an impressive soundstage and has surprisingly large bass reproduction with both precision and timing.

Low-loss technology
The cone used in the Rubicon series draws upon the heritage from the EPICON technologies, and has a light, rigid and randomly uneven structure. This lower the complexity of the central part of the motor, ensures even piston like movements, reduces the possibility of surface resonance greatly and creates an extremely low distortion within the Rubicon series. The soft low-loss rubber surround is designed and bespoke specifically for the Rubicon series, and all of the components are situated in an aluminum chassis designed for maximum airflow around the cone and magnet system.

Tweeters
In the Rubicon series, DALI makes use of both the soft dome tweeter working alone, and the hybrid tweeter configuration an amazing rendering of the high frequencies. The voice coil used in the Rubicon series is designed to be very light and agile in order to achieve a broader bandwidth. This lighter voice coil is placed inside a powerful ferrite magnet that keeps a tight control of its movements. The ribbon tweeter is the master of wide dispersion and combining it with the soft dome, the tweeter module starts working as low as 2.5 KHz. This extreme bandwidth combined with the ultra wide dispersion is an important part of the DALI sound philosophy.

A worthwhile upgrade

As I unpacked these speakers from their packaging I was not only impressed with the finish ( gloss black ) but also the build quality. You get what you pay for,the terminals which are slotted are more than wide enough to accept most cables . the edges of the cabinet and the fixings all blend well and are pleasing to the eye.

Now the sound, these replaced my older speakers that were frankly too large for my room and no matter how I positioned them I couldn't get bass drive without the volume being too high for me or my neighbour!
I set the speakers as per the manual and have moved them forward and back a few times and they are back where the manual suggests.
The sound is something of a revelation deep bass without the volume and the clarity and definition of the soundstage is superb.

I asked to borrow these on a demo with a view to purchase, it took me three days to make up my mind that these are for me.

Thanks to Martin and Terry for their efficient handling of the order in these challenging times.
