We can offer customers wishing to upgrade their existing Chord equipment generous trade in allowances. Other manufacturers equipment is also considered.

In response to demands for a larger amplifier we have re-engineered our original SPM5000 as our most powerful stereo amplifier to date. Using the latest low distortion amplifier circuitry with our own proprietary lateral structure dual-die MOSFETs the SPM5000 Mk II is able to drive extremely difficult loudspeaker loads with clarity and precision. Delivering a comfortable 560W rms into 8ohms the SPM5000 Mk II will be the perfect accompaniment to most larger loudspeakers and can be used for stereo or as part of a multichannel system when combined with further amplification.



  • Now in MkII form, numerous engineering refinements have been made to the SPM 5000 to increase its sonic performance, flexibility and lifespan. These include:
  • New front panel design
  • New power-control and sequencing board
  • New rear connector plate that allows for third-party power connectors and the use of new beautifully made, British-designed, heavy-duty, gold-plated, insulated speaker terminals.
  • Refinements to the filter components of the subsequent amplifier stages, to insure greater high-speed performance whilst maintaining good overall stability.
  • Internal upgrades including numerous circuit board and earthing changes. These were implemented to improve high-current power flow across the units and help extend the product's lifecycle.
  • A reduction of the value of the emitter balancing resistors in the first long tail pair in the second intermediate stage of the amplifier. This allows for a faster overall response and improves the square signal performance of the very high frequencies of the amplifiers. 



  • OUTPUT POWER: 560W rms per channel @ 0.05% distortion into 8 ohms, 1020W rms per channel @ 0.05% distortion into 4 ohms. Thermal limitation only, 1 channel driven.
  • DYNAMIC HEADROOM: 650W rms per channel into 8 ohms, 1100W rms per channel into 4 ohms. - 1 KHz, 20 cycles on, 480 cycles off. Peak pulses 8 milliseconds burst 90V peak (the equivalent of over 1600W per channel peak into 4 ohms)
  • FREQUENCY RESPONSE: (8 OHMS) -1dB, 0.2Hz to 46KHz, -3dB, 0.1Hz to 77KHz
  • FREQUENCY RESPONSE: (4 OHMS) -1dB, 0.2Hz to 39KHz, -3dB, 0.1Hz to 75KHz
  • SIGNAL TO NOISE RATIO: Better than -103dB, ‘A’ weighted two thirds power.
  • CHANNEL SEPARATION: Better than 95dB.
  • PRE-AMPLIFIER INPUT CONNECTION: 2 x gold-plated, fully balanced XLR sockets.  2 x gold-plated custom phono sockets, unbalanced.
  • INPUT IMPEDANCE: 100kΩ.  Unbalanced/Balanced.
  • OUTPUT CONNECTIONS: 4 x Gold plated WBT binding posts
  • SLEW RATE: 70V per μS, 1KHz 20V square wave
  • GAIN: 30dB.
