The Ayre P-5x infuses new life into a classic format.HI-FI NEWS JULY 2006 '' Without question this is a stunning phono stage with exceptional connectivity, excellent build quality and 'fit and forget' operation. It operated in my system without a glitch. At its price its performance puts it in the bona fide bargain category and a less scrupulous engineer and distributor could have priced this at £3000.00 + without question. The Ayre is a truly excellent design and I recommend it very strongly. If your looking for a phono stage in this price range, you owe it to your vinyl collection to hear this one.

Bought this a few years ago for use with Linn LP12/Ekos/Ortofon, the sound is magnificent having depth, width and detail. It knocks digital into a cocked hat for the naturalness and fluency of the sound. The only caveat is that if one is constantly changing cartridges which require different setting then one has to take the top plate off and move jumpers inside the amp, however this means that there are no switches in the audio circuit. If, like me, you just want to enjoy the music this is unimportant.Very smart unfussy appearance.
